Sacred Buildings

Sacred Buildings, Beyond Promise Exhibition, Kunstverein Leipzig, Germany 2022.
Drawing and paper installation.

The exhibition presents the artistic research about the architectural heritage of Socialism in Cairo and Leipzig to critically discuss its current relevance in terms of common good oriented action, ecologically sustainable urbanism and the desire for a society that can interact equally. Mina Nasr creates drawings and paper installations using elements from architectural facades of the former German Democratic Republic as well as socialist buildings in Egypt. In this installation, two wooden frames hang from the exhibition ceiling, enabling four paper canvases. Each frame represents a state of the sanctity of authoritarian knowledge on architecture in the form of contradictory interference of patterns of the two countries—Egypt and Germany.
